Crazy for Autumn @ A Vintage Journey

Hi Friends,  it's one of my favorite times at A Vintage Journey, the start of a new challenge  We are celebrating Autumn with it's wonderful color pallet and thoughts of cool fall days.  The theme this month is "Crazy for Autumn Color" and the creative guides have a wonderful array of creative designs to share with you.  Come on by - simply click here.

I made this piece of home décor to celebrate the season.

I began with an ordinary embroidery hoop that was purchase at my local craft store.
Next I cut a piece of burlap that is a little bit larger than the hoop.

The burlap was sprayed with some Nemories Mist sprays.  I used orange, of course, and some dark brown.  Next the burlap was placed on the hoop and the edges were trimmed off in the back and glued down.

Using some semi opaque vellum, I cut several leaves and then colored them with alcohol inks.  When the ink was dry, which doesn't take long, I embossed some of the larger leave and then folded the others in half to give some dimension. 

I placed the leaves as desired on the hoop and held them in place with glue dots.  When all leaves were arranged as desired I added some acorns and some ribbon on the top.

I used chipboard that was covered with paper to cut my letters for the word "FALL".

The Witch Is In -

Hi Friends,

Today I had some play time in my studio and decided to play with some alcohol inks and Yupo paper.   I made a couple of tag backgrounds and then went looking for some fun inspiration on Pinterest.  Well, guess what? It worked. I found some fun tags and cards to inspire me.

 

I used Cheepers the Chicken from Karen Burniston's fun character collection.  Since I've been in a Halloween mood lately I decided to make Cheepers into a witch.  The Witch Is In!!

Destintation Inspiration at A Vintage Journey

This week it is my turn to share a project at A Vintage Journey.  Each month 4 of the Creative Guides take you on a little adventure where we are challenged to use the same items in different ways.  This month we packed:

Steampunk Wingz

Hi my crafty friends,

I am finally back from my fabulous trip through the Canadian Atlantic Maritimes.  We had a wonderful trip with no major problems but it is so nice to be back home.  I have missed my crafting and my studio.  While I was away I made lots of notes for things I want to make when I got home so I will be sharing those in the next few weeks.

While I was away my friends went to Art Unraveled, an art extravaganza in Phoenix each August.  I am usually gone in August so didn't get to go, I still can't believe they would go without me.  Anyway, my friend Cheri picked up a lovely gift for me and I couldn't wait to start working on it.  I finished it last night so thought I would share.

This laser cut chipboard kit from Grapevine Designs and Studio started out like this:

With a little work and very messy fingers it turned out like this:

Her wings and base are covered with dry embossed clocks and gears, on foil tape, from the Tim Holtz line of Texture Fades from Sizzix.  They were then colored using Alcohol Inks from Ranger.  For her face I used a domino stamp, sorry - don't know the brand, stamped on tissue paper and then added using Gel Medium.

 

I perched her on an old tin that I had in my stash and then added the

idea-ology Letterpress word Wingz.  I embossed each letter with a different color of embossing powder.  The photo below shows the letters close up.

 

I had so much fun with this and since I see that the current challenge over at

Mixed Media Monthly is  "Get Texty" she will be flying over there as my entry.

Compendium of Curiosities #28

Hi my friends and happy Sunday-

I live in the southwest portion of the US.  More specifically - in the beautiful Sonoran Desert where we have blue skies most days of the year.  When I saw the challenge over at Linda Ledbetter's blog calling for the Ombre Technique from  CC vol. 3, page 57, I knew I wanted to do something southwestern.  The way the colors fade from dark to light remind me of  a sunset or, all though I don't see many, a sunrise.

Here is what I made for the challenge.

 

I played a little bit with the colors before deciding what I was really going to do.  I made some feathers with Tim's Feather Duo using the technique but I didn't feel that it showed up as much as I wanted. 

Next I made a panel using the technique with blue and caramel and I got just what I was looking for. 

 

 

To add a little interest I did some stenciling using Tim's Stars and Bubble Layering Stencils and some Orange Blossom Archival Ink.  I was pretty happy with that so I cut the top of my panel to look like a tag & punched a hole in the center.  I added a charm that I sanded and then a feather that I added Alcohol Ink to.  I also added a couple feathers from the Writing Desk Die.

 

When we travel in the summer one of the things I like to do is color with my PrismaColor Pencils.  I had a desert panel in my stash so used it for the center.  Next came the feathers with a brad and I was ready to go.
