Shoot for the moon --

Hi everyone,

I am thrilled that Donna Wright of Old Red Shed  and member of  Karen Burniston's Design Challenge Team invited me to be her partner for this month's challenge.  Karen asked everyone on the team to invite a blogger friend to participate with the only requirement being the use of an accordion die from her collection.  Donna and I decided we would both use the  Accordion Star for our projects.  I hope you will hop on over to her blog to see what she made.  Don't forget to stop by the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog on Wednesday April 15th to see what the rest of the team and their guests made for the challenge as well as a new video from Karen.  She always amazes me with her clever new techniques.

 

I have a stamp that says "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."  Although I printed my sentiment on the computer, I used the verse from the stamp.  Here's what I did with it.



           

Here's how I did it!

For the front I used the stars from the die set and some very shinny metallic paper.  I decided to use two different edges from the Star Fancy Edges, one for the front and a different one on the inside panels. 

 

I used my e cutter to design and cut the moon. Then used the stars from the edge.

 

 

On the inside of the card I cut the center of 2 stars out.

 

 

Using the dies in the set, I cut out the printed verse and backed them with some
patterned paper.

 

Next came 2 spirals from the Spiral Pull Card cut from transparences and then a dot of

Glossy Accents in the center. Next step, wait for glue to dry.

 

 

Attaching the spiral to each star, it was run through the center of the open stars and then attached to the anchor stars on the ends.

 

After attaching the verse stars, smaller stars were cut from the Accordion Star and the Happy Birthday Pop Up and then attached to the spiral - making it appear that they are shooting stars.

Flutter Card

Hi All

I hope everyone is enjoying their Monday.  We are having a warm spell here in Arizona.  Feels more like summer than spring. 

I have been working on a card that I wanted to share, it is made with the Butterfly Pivot Card die from Karen Burniston.  I wanted it to appear that the butterflies were fluttering all around the inside of the card. I tried a technique that I've had on my mind for awhile.  The Wednesday Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is all about birthdays so will enter my card there.

 

I made the pivot card as usual and then cut 2 spirals from clear sheets using the Spiral Circle Pull Card die.  The acetate that I used is an overhead projector sheet.  These sheets are strong but thin and when you see the card in person you can't see it at all.

I attached the inside of the circle to the wings of the large Butterflies, closed the card to find the placement and then glued the outer edge of the spiral to the card.

  

The card closes completely flat but when opened the butterflies come flying out from everywhere.

 

In the photo above you can see the acetate because I photographed it in high definition and close up.

"Make it Manly" - Karen Burniston's October Challenge

Making a card or project for a man is always a challenge but with Karen's new Clock and Gears accessory die set I was able to breeze right through this one.

I used the Spiral Circle Pull Card for the base of the card, it's so fast and easy to get a great effect.  I just love the built in tabs to keep the card closed, all made with one pass through the die cutting machine.

Here's how I did it!

 

I selected my paper - I only needed four different ones for this card.  I used black for the base and clock hands and a couple of gears, a pattered piece for the side panels and some beautiful copper for the clock and gears. 

I cut out the card body by placing the alignment nibs on the center fold and then ran it through my machine.  I wanted my finished card to measure 6 X 6 so cut my black paper 6 X 9.

From the patterned paper I cut 2 side panels, the size can very according to what you wish to do.  I like to edge my panels so used some Vintage Photo DI.

I attached the panels to the card and then rounded the corners.  I used my electronic cutter to make the panels, one that says "Happy Birthday" and the other that says "You're not old - You're Vintage".  For this I used some manila paper.

 

 

After cutting the clock face, I decided to scatter the numbers all around the card for some added interest.  I then cut out a few gears and began to assemble.  I used my Xyron X machine to add the adhesive to the numbers.

 

 

 

At this point I decided that I could use a couple more gears so cut two more for the inside of the card.

 

Such a fast and fun way to make a card that looks harder than it is to make.
