A Little Touch of Tim @ A Vintage Journey

Hi all and welcome to the latest challenge theme at A Vintage Journey.  Alison, our lovely host, has chosen "A Little Touch of Tim", asking us to keep it small.  Well I have done just that with this very simple ATC.  For me it was a "no brainer" because this is my business card.

I've used the Queen of Hearts from Tim's Poker Faces Texture Fades embossed in white with two little rhinestone hearts.  I have added red cardstock on the back, and put my information on white copy paper that I ran through the Xyron machine and stuck onto the red.  This is simple and effective, people seem to remember me because I have a unique business card.   This was so simple and self explanatory that I have no tutorial for you today.

Have a great crafty day,

Word Play @ Country View Challenge

Hi all,

I am excited to be here today to share some thoughts and a project with you.   As one of the top 3 winners over at Country View Challenge Blog, for my Love the Red, White and Blue project, where the theme was "Only Men Allowed" I get to join the group this month. The theme for August is 'Word Play' which means anything to do with quotes and sayings but not including sentiments for cards.  I hope you will stop over to see what's going on at the challenge blog by clicking here.

Since I am currently enjoying a road trip through Alaska I decided to go with a travel theme.  A few years ago there was a Sunday TV program called, "On The Road", hosted by Charles Kuralt.  He would visit little out of the way places all across America.  Interviewing the local people and finding some very interesting things and folks.  I found a quote by him that just tickled me so I had to use it.  Although I am seeing things of interest and fascination along the way I just had to use his quote.  I have incorporated it in a scrapbook page that I made while we were in Canada.  I am scraping along the way so hopefully I will have a very thick book when I get home.  Here is my page and the quote is enlarged at the bottom to make it easier to read.

Here is his quote:  Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is  possible to travel across the country from coast to coast without seeing anything.

Coming from Arizona where we love the cactus and rocks it is very refreshing to spend some time among the Pine Trees which is my inspiration for this page.

After finding the paper I wanted to use, both from K & Company (I've had this paper pad a long time). I started my layout.

Next up - scanned the "post card" section of the paper, put my quote on it, printed it and cut it out - then placed it on top of the one on the paper.

Once I added my quote - I cut off the parts of the paper that I didn't need, ripped the edges, distressed the edges with Vintage Photo DI, curled some of the edges and it was ready for the next embellishments.  Mac is always asking me why I take a perfectly good piece of paper and change it.  Well, I guess the answer is, because I can!!

Once I had my quote on, I was ready to go with the rest of the embellishments.  I printed two pictures of the campground with the beautiful tress and placed them on at the top corner.  Next I used the Tim Holtz Blueprint Tree and Die Set.  I simply cut off the star on top of the tree and it became a lovely pine in the forest. After adding a little Shabby Shutter Distress Marker they were ready to go.  I popped them up with foam dots.

I Stamped the Road Trip on a coordinating piece of paper and cut it out by hand, distressed the edges and added it.  I then stamped the Blueprint Compass directly on the page.  I used the Movers and Shapers Dies for the pointy finger and camera. I wanted to use some silver paper for the back of the camera but didn't have any so used duct tape and it worked just fine. " Out of necessity comes creativity".  I put an epoxy dot for the lenses.   I added a star as a map dot,  added a word band "capture life's moments".  The top corner looked a little naked so added some gears and it is done.

I hope you have enjoyed my take on "Word Play".

Here Moosey, Moosey-----

Greetings from beautiful Alaska,

Well, so far on our trip we have seen some pretty awesome things but I'm still on the lookout for a male Moose.   We have set out on several Moose hunts - armed with only a camera to capture one but so far they have managed to elude us.  Today it's raining so I decided to make a tag depicting, what else?, a Moose.  Since it seems they are hiding from us, I went silly with this one.

Here he is peeking out at us from the trees, and laughing, I'm sure.  I had some fun with this and have to admit that I was laughing myself.  I hope you are having a chuckle too.  I used a word stick at the top that says "FIND".   I really would love to FIND one.

I plan to link this to Tim's blog as an entry for this month's tag. He said that just about anything goes. He told us to use our own creative imagination so I did.

I don't have a full tutorial today but a couple pictures of the process.

I colored my tag with Evergreen Bough DI and then added the sun with one of Tim's stencils and some modeling paste - then colored it with Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade.  I then removed some of the color with water and another stencil.  Sadly, most of these details got covered up with the rest of the design but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

I cut the moose face by hand and then used the Trophy Antlers Die and the movers and shapers Mustache Die.  I added lots of trees and foliage from several other dies.  When I got to this point I felt I needed some more so I added some color to the antlers and then added some more trees and things.  I also used some pinecones I found at one of our stops.

Thanks for indulging my silliness.  Hope you have enjoyed my tag and have had a laugh.

If  you have lasted this long and care to stick around, I have added some pictures of the real thing (female only) as well as some other things we have been lucky enough to spy.

Have a great weekend and make something just for the fun of it.

Time Flies at A Vintage Journey

Hi All my lovely blogger friends -

This time around our Vintage Journey Creative Guide, Chris, has chosen "Time Flies" as her theme.  I am sharing a card organizer, hoping I can fill it up, so I don't miss any important birthdays because time really does fly.

On the front of the box you can see the Timspiration - I used the Weathered Clock Die, one of his metal clock faces and one of his knobs.  I used some great paper that I had from DCWV, their Tattered Time pad.  I made the box template myself with some chipboard and it is held together by the paper.  I used some little wooden knobs from my stash for legs.

For the wings and bracket I used some of Tim's Grungboard  punch outs.
I covered each one with embossing ink and then added copper embossing powder and then heat set - giving it a glossy finish.  I did the same with the Weathered Clock,

I used my electronic cutter to make 12 index cards with the month printed on each tab.
I then edged each one with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

I used manila paper to make 12 file folders to hold the index cards.  I cut a half circle with a punch in the center of each one.

The folders are graduated in size so each month shows and the cards are easy to find.  I attached the folders to each other using a strip of double back tape down the center. I did not attach the folders to the front cover or the bottom, they are attached to the frame only in the back - that way there is plenty of room for several cards in one month (as shown below).  I have lots of birthdays in March.

I hope you have enjoyed my little  project and are inspired to make one yourself.  The hard part is next, filling it up with cards.

Have a crafty weekend,
